Lots of people don't realize that the avocado is a fruit. Unlike
tomatoes, which really don't lend themselves to sweet dishes,
avocados are often served in desserts on tropical islands. I
make avocado ice cream all summer long—it's a favorite.
But one of the best good-for-you breakfasts I can think of is the
avocado smoothie, which can be adapted to any diet.
The basic recipe I make is this:
· 1/2 avocado
· 1 cup milk (or soy milk) (I use 1%)
· 1 serving Aria protein powder (opt.)
· 1 t. vanilla
· 4 ice cubes
· sweetener (about 3T Splenda or sugar) to taste.
It's really delicious and filling, and it has your healthy fats,
your mega proteins, your good dairy. You can make this
as low-cal and low-carb as mine, or you can go whole hog
with whole milk and real sugar.
